Injectable Vitamins

While food is the best way to get our nutrients, sometimes we need a little boost! We are happy to announce that we are now offering injectable vitamins in our Glastonbury office. They may be a good option for folks who have difficulty remembering to take their vitamins, those with absorption issues, or those with severe deficiencies. Contact your healthcare provider to see if you are a good candidate.

Injectable Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin)

Vitamin B12, also known as methylcobalamin, is an important vitamin needed for the brain, nerves, mitochondria, and production of red blood cells in the body. It is used to treat not only vitamin B12 deficiency, but also other conditions, such as pernicious anemia. The “methyl” form of B12 is considered the “activated” form, meaning that your body doesn’t have to add a methyl group to “turn it on.” This is important for those who have genetic mutations that impact their methylation (like MTHFR) but it also makes methylcobalamin a highly bioavailable option for most people. Because vitamin B12 is commonly found in animal-based products, supplementing with B12 is important for those on plant based-diets like vegans and some vegetarians.

Cost: $30 per injection

Injections are typically given once per month, but may differ based on your specific situation

Injectable Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is synthesized in our bodies through exposure to sunlight. We can also get vitamin D3 from eating certain foods. Unfortunately, D deficiency is very common in Connecticut and much of the northern hemisphere. If you have low vitamin D3, supplementing with vitamin D3 can help to support the immune system, is important for bone health, and is needed for many crucial functions in the body.

D3 injections may be a good option for you if you struggle to remember your daily D3 supplement or have genetic variants that impact your ability to absorb vitamin D. We recommend that all patients get a D level checked to confirm deficiency before starting D3 injections.

Cost: $30 per injection
Injections are typically given every three months, with blood tests done prior to each injection to guide dosing and frequency.
